A SIMPLE PRE-WEDDING SKINCARE ROUTINE

Updated: Jun 19

If there was ever a time to take up a good skincare routine, it’s in the lead up to your wedding. However we all know skincare regimes can be totally overwhelming, so here’s a super at home routine to getting the most from you skin for the big day…

Step 1 : Cleanse

Cleansers are designed to gently remove dirt, debris, oil and makeup from the skin. Cleansing away these substances stops pores from getting clogged creating a clean face which will ensure your following skincare products are absorbed more efficiently. For example, its is a waste of time and product applying moisturiser to an un cleansed face as you will get no benefits from it.

Optional Step 2 : Tone

Toners are designed to rebalance and refresh the the skin. The main point of a toner is to complete the cleansing step, removing any excess debris, oil and add replenishing ingredients immediately back into the skin. Toners are best for an extremely oily skin, however in my opinion toners are not necessary, they are just an added expense that you can skip by buying a decent cleanser.

Step 3 : Exfoliate

Most people will exfoliate before they tone, however I see Cleanse and Tone as two parts of the same step and to me it makes more sense to exfoliate when you are completely clean. Our environment plays a big part in skin damage and is the main factor for buildup on the skin, leaving the skin surface dull, rough, and uneven. Exfoliating eliminates this buildup, which otherwise would cause clogged pores and uneven skin tone, and worsen the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Ultimately exfoliating is a key step for a smoother and noticeably renewed skin. However be careful of the products you choose as anything too harsh will actually damage the skin.

Step 4 : Serum

Serums are my FAV! I’m actually obsessed with them, its not healthy and recently I’ve had a major detox and only really use one magical, beautiful Serum now ( which i will update you on soon). So, In simple terms, Serums are designed to penetrate into the deeper layer of your skin, creating a defensive barrier. They’re filled with antioxidants and anti ageing ingredients ( which aren’t just anti ageing but more so retexturing ) to create a softer, healthier and younger feeling skin.

Step 5 : Moisturiser

Moisturiser and Serum are kind of a pair in my eyes. Moisturiser is no where near as effective without a serum. It's essential to use a moisturiser that includes an SPF. Sunscreens with antioxidants are essential to protect your skin from UV light exposure, which is the #1 cause of wrinkles, uneven skin tone, loss of firmness, and many other signs of ageing. Plus moisturising should finish your skin and keep you feeling hydrated and plump!
